Signom II, Robert Eugene

of Dayton, Ohio, loving husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend, died at Miami Valley Hospital on Thursday, July 4, 2019. He was 74. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lola; son Robert E. Signom III (Penelope Thomas) of New York, NY, daughter Megan Turner (Matthew West), grandson George Turner West, and granddaughter Genevieve Frances West of Dayton, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Signom Sr. and Anne Louise Signom.

Bob was born on February 1, 1945 to Bob and Anne Signom in Dayton, Ohio. A true Daytonian, Bob attended Colonel White High School, Miami University, Washington University, and The Ohio State University, where he received his Juris Doctorate. Bob practiced law as Associate General Counsel at NCR, as well as Smith and Schnacke; Young, Pryor, Lynn and Jerardi; and Green and Green. In 1974, Bob argued a case on behalf of NCR before the Supreme Court of the United States. In 1992, Bob founded The Citizens’ Motorcar Company, America’s Packard Museum, on Ludlow Street. He served as its Curator until his death. His love of Classic Cars, especially Packards, remains a source of inspiration and education to a great many people. Bob achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in Miami Valley Council. Bob was larger than life in many ways; he will be remembered for his storytelling, sense of adventure, and hearty laugh.

A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 1:30pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton.

My heartfelt sympathy, Lola and family. Bob was always a joy to see at Coco’s. His friendly spirit and his commitment to Dayton and family were abundantly clear. Bob always knew exactly what he wanted, and our Coco’s family was humbled to have the opportunity to serve him, and you.

Blessings as you celebrate the spirit of Bob whose larger than life spirit continues to soar in each of you ... ✨🙏

Bob and Lola and I shared our early careers at NCR; during a time of radical change. Those were exhilarating years. Pam (my wife) and I were married in Bob and Lola’s home in front of the fireplace; just the four of us + the justice of peace + six friends + Rob. We used to drive down to Louisville for the Derby in one of Bob beautiful cars. In later years; he made his vision a reality; the Packard Museum. Which took guts plus perseverance! And always proud of his family and Lola. Never a quitter; even though, recently he had to deal with some health issues. An inspiration. We love you Bob !!! Malte and Pam vonMatthiessen

I am so very sorry to hear. I first met Bob around age 7 or so (1972) and every day of grade school I walked past his house to and from often admiring a white 1961 Jaguar XK 150 Drophead or other interesting automobiles. Bob started my interest in Packard cars. And Bob and I had the pleasure of working together regarding the operations of America's Packard Museum for 3 years during very dark economic days of 2009, 2010, and 2011. We also shared in common being attorney's and I loved that whatever the topic Bob and I could have a detailed conversation that I have found in very few others. Bob loved Christmas too - here is a photo shoot we did that became a Museum Christmas Card - That is Bob's 1928 Packard in the shot. John Mereness
