Obituary

Charles G. Doll, age 85 of Lexington, Kentucky, previously of Dayton, Ohio, died on Thursday July 30, 2020 at The Willow's in Hamburg, in Lexington, KY. Born March 3, 1935 in Batesville, IN he is the son of Magdalene (Nee) Hirt and Marcellus Doll. He served in the army from 1958 - 1960. Following his service he married Rose Marie (Romey) Janning on April 20, 1963. He worked for Delco Products as a Control Engineer for over 20 years. His job took him and his family to Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain from 1981 - 1983 where many new friends were made and had the opportunity to travel through Europe.

Charlie enjoyed many hobbies, fishing, playing cards, CB club (his handle was String Bean) and most importantly spending time with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Reds, Bengals, University of Dayton Basketball and local Dayton Dragons. Anyone that was greeted by Charlie was greeted with either a firm handshake, Strong hug, a kiss or an icy pop for the neighborhood kids. Charlie had a wonderful sense of humor and got along with everyone. Before Parkinson took its hold on him, he enjoyed his daily walks and passing out treats to the neighborhood dogs. He was determined not to let Parkison slow him down.

He is survived by his three children Sharon Muscarella (Ed) of Georgetown, KY, Susan Doll (Jim Stanley) of Aurora, OH and Mike Doll of Buda, TX; Grandchildren Brad Edwards, Andy Edwards and Tyler Stanley; Great Granddaughter Aubrey Edwards; Sister Rosemary Adams of Speedway, IN and Joan Enneking of Oldenburg, IN, and many nieces and nephew and two brother-in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Romey, and brother James "Spot" Doll.

Visitation is on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M at Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home.

My condolences to the family. Charlie was my friend for many years. We worked together for Delco in Dayton and briefly in Spain and Mexico. I’ll remember his smile and the good times we had together.

Growing up, I always felt closest to the Dayton area Janning clan which Charlie had married into. Even though they were my 3rd, 4th, 5th cousins (something like that) they were all always so welcoming. My favorite time was at Christmas when we would get together with all of them. There was always a huge hug guaranteed from Charlie. He made me feel like one of his own kids whenever he looked at me and what a blessing that was. That family is a group of loving and beautiful people that I am blessed to call part of my own family. Sharon, Susie and Mike I am so sorry for your loss but I know that your mom and dad will always be looking down on you and hugging you from heaven. God's peace be in your hearts.
